#XMASBOOKTUBEATHON and #CRAMATHON Progress Post #2 December 2014

At the very last minute I decided to continue past the #xmasbooktubeathon and keep readathon-ing by participating in the  #cramathon as well. Hopefully the progress continues going well! Here's a video featuring my #cramathon TBR pile!

My Progress

So far during Day 2 of the #xmasbooktubeathon and Day 1 of the #cramathon I've read 160 pages. This includes six and a half of the short stories in the anthology, My True Love Gave to Me. I talk about this in more detail in the above video but what I can say right now is that I am loving this adorable and refreshing Holiday read!

In Other News...

Last night I tweeted about this song I listened to reminding me of Rainbow Rowell's short story for My True Love Gave to Me. The song is called "All About Us" and it's by He is We be sure to check it out especially if you've read Midnights. The big news here though is that Rainbow Rowell favorited my Tweet about this!!!!! Sufficient to say that I am STILL freaking out about this!

#XMASBOOKTUBEATHON Progress Post #1 December 2014

I've decided to participate in the 2014 #xmasbooktubeathon. Here's a video about my TBR pile and a brief update on my progress thus far. For those who don't know the challenges for this booktubeathon include reading a book with red and green on the cover, reading a book that you've wanted to read all year, reading a book that has been gifted to you, and reading three books in three days. In addition to actually reading I will be trying to participate in Twitter sprints and daily update videos on my YouTube account so if you'd like to see that be sure to subscribe!

My Progress

Finished Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs last night just in time to start my ‪#‎xmasbooktubeathon‬ tbr pile. Since midnight I've finished challenge #2 (read a book you've wanted to read all year) by reading the graphic novel memoir Fun Home by Alison Bechdel and started challenge #1 (read a book with red and green on the cover) by starting a collection of short stories by YA authors like Rainbow Rowell, David Levithan, Holly Black, and Gayle Forman called My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories edited by Stephanie Perkins. Pacing myself well so far!

My Top Books/Series of All Time

Hey everyone! I just started my own BookTube channel and uploaded my first video today. In it I talk about my December to be read pile and my planes for the channel itself. If anyone would like to go see that and subscribe you can click here to get to my YouTube channel. In honor of introducing myself to the BookTube community I would like to discuss some of my favorite books of all time so let's get started!

Harry Potter

by J.K. Rowling

For me, this is where it all began. I fell in love with reading completely when I first read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at the age of four. Harry has been a major part of my life for quite a long time. The books, the movies, the video games, the fandom, everything. I went as far as to finally get a Ravenclaw uniform a couple years back. The world that Rowling created has stuck with me since the minute I opened the first book and I think many people can attest to this series' greatness. I know so many others will say Harry Potter is their favorite book of all time but to me it's more than that. It's like it's my favorite life of all time because when we open a truly great book what it becomes is a new life and world and that is what happens whenever I return to the Harry Potter series.

The Night Circus

by Erin Morgenstern

This book is literally so amazing. It has a fantastic plot, wonderful character development, excellent word choice, and absolutely gorgeous imagery. It's one of those books that really just pulls you in and it just doesn't have a large enough fan base for being as amazing it is. I really just love the entire world that Erin Morgenstern has created and built up. This novel is sort of one of those tales that just grows with you as you experience it and it is just one of my favorite stories ever.

Wuthering Heights

by Emily Brontë

Wuthering Heights is my absolute favorite book that I read for an English class in high school. I love the characters and how all of their relationships develop and entangle. I had to write a 10 page literary analysis on this book in my Junior year of high school so I could go on and on about it for days but I think my favorite thing about this book is its use of metaphors. I also really enjoy reading about the Brontë sisters and their lives so it was great looking into all of that while I was writing about it.

Shine

by Lauren Myracle

This book. I do not think I could possibly sing its praises enough. The characters are wonderful and I love the build up and their back stories. There is a huge twist involved with this and an element of mystery and surprise that is so great. Aside from that it is just so well written and every bit is beautifully worded. I actually used this book recently in a presentation against hate speech in my Honors Communication and Critical Thinking class that went over really well. Lauren Myracle has never disappointed me in her work but this is my favorite out of anything else I've read by her by far.

Pride and Prejudice

by Jane Austen

Pride and Prejudice is really neck and neck with Wuthering Heights in the running for my favorite adult classic book. I tried to read it when I was in 8th grade and I couldn't handle it then but I read it again only a year later and it made all the difference. Pride and Prejudice is a tale that I hold near and dear to my heart with a slew of great amusing characters and a wonderful message. I've read the book numerous times since my Freshman year of high school and will even be reading it for a British Literature class I'm taking next semester. This will be reading it because even though I have read it multiple times I have not read it too recently and haven't read it since before I first watched (and fell i love with) The Lizzie Bennet Diaries so it will be interesting to see if that adaptation will affect how I see things when reading it this time around.

Green Angel and Green Witch

by Alice Hoffman

These books are amazing and what's weird is that I have not heard anyone talk about them. They're quick reads, super short, and they're middle grade books but they have so much symbolism and beautiful imagery and characters. I just love the first two books so much and though I haven't gotten my hands on third book yet I cannot wait to have the chance to do that because I would bet it is just as good as the first two. Alice Hoffman crafted a beautiful plot that I loved dearly and I really want to get into some of her adult books because of these two stories.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

by Kate DiCamillo

This is my favorite children's book ever. I haven't read much of Kate DiCamillo's work aside from this but I've always wanted. This is a very fast paced book that really tells a bunch of very different events and strings them all together. The imagery (if you haven't been able to tell yet that's a big seller for me) is astounding and I just fell in love with Edward on page one. Incidentally the illustrations are also gorgeous and could almost tell a story on their own. Finally this book has a coda at the end that sums up the whole story in a beautiful manner and this was the first book I ever read where I saw something like that so that's always really stood out to me. I just love this so much even though it is definitely meant for much younger readers. In addition to this I just always loved books about rabbits as a child so that has always been a plus for me.

So there you have it! Some of my favorite books and an explanation as to why I love them so much. Don't forget to check out my YouTube channel like I said at the beginning and you can again find it by clicking riiiiight here.

Meeting John Barrowman: Motor City Comic Con 2014

This Friday I got the oppurtunity to meet John Barrowman at the 2014 Motor City Comic Con! It was basically the best day of my life! I got him to sign my Collector's Edition John Barrowman Concert DVD Set.

I told him how much I loved him as Captain Jack Harkness on Doctor Who and Torchwood.
And I told him that I also love his work in Theatre since that's what I do and how I had all his CDs. He is seriously the most amazing, funny, and real person I've ever met and even though I was so, so nervous I'm so glad I got the opportunity to meet him.

The Return of St. Berry (or What Should Happen On Glee)

First let me start by saying: I love Jonathan Groff. I've admired his acting skills, his gorgeous singing voice, and his chemistry with Lea Michele since "Spring Awakening." I really want him to succeed with his new show on HBO, "Looking", however I really want him to return to Glee. I have a whole plan. I think it should be revealed that the St. James family owns the St. James theatre where Funny Girl is showing. Jesse could attend a show and come see Rachel in the dressing room. From there it would be history. Now that it's impossible for Finn and Rachel to end up together the only obvious match for her is Jesse. I've always believed Finchel was endgame but I love St. Berry. They're perfect for each other. They both have great ambition and their duets are to die for. I think Rachel has had enough time to mourn that they could do this tastefully. I also believe that by the end of next season her inability to move forward will become tiresome. Glee is only set to run for one more season so that doesn't leave much time. However, I really hope that Jonathan Groff can find time away from the Second Season of Looking that's been slated to run so hopefully the writers of Glee can make this a reality. I really think it would be a perfect ending if they could at least make this happen at the end of Season Six.
